The present home of the Hungry Gull Restaurant & Bar is the former home
of Island View Resort, dating back to 1926. Walter and Lena Frampton were
the original developers that responded to early fishermen and adventurers.
Lena served and cooked three hearty meals a day, lumberjack style. In the
winter, Walter built the cabins and cut block Gull Lake ice for summer use.
In 1946, Ben and Eleanor Curry became the new owners. They added the dining
room's north wing with timbers coming from the Pine Beach Peninsula. They
expanded the resort and operated it until the early 1960's. Thereafter, the
Thiel, Yoho and Bearson families who owned and operated the resort.
In
1988, Dutch and Irma Cragun purchased Island View and connected it to the
Cragun Complex. The Lodge was opened a year later after kitchen enlargement
and redecorating as the Hungry Gull Restaurant & Bar. When you come to dine,
take notice of the Pastry Cooks cupboard which was salvaged from the kitchen
by Irma and refinished to retain part of the buildings tradition of good
cooking.
The Hungry Gull Restaurant features family popular Paul
Bunyan Basket Meals and a full table service menu. The emphasis is on family
and sharing in this lovely rustic style log dining space with great food and
a cozy ambiance. A family salad bowl and fresh, house-made rolls start
dinner at your table. The entrees featured at the Hungry Gull are family and
golf friendly. The Hungry Gull also features assorted desserts including
our popular Blueberry Bramble.
