With 68% of the votes, the winner of last week’s “Favorite Cragun’s Memory” poll was “Family Time Together” from Lance.
Our 4 1/2 year old son Daegen passed away from Leukemia on July 17th, 2005. He was diagnosed in 2003 with AML. After many countless hours, nights, weeks and months spent in the hospital, out of town and our family life completely disrupted, Daegen passed away quietly at home. My wife and I have a daughter Alexa who was 9 at the time Daegen died. She sacrificed many things during Daegen’s battle with Leukemia. After Daegen passed away, Janelle and I felt it very important to take a family vacation to get out of town and try to find some normalcy in our lives. We found Cragun’s Resort online and booked our trip. We were able to spend some very valuable family time together, no friends, doctors, nurses, or other people around, just the three of us. Alexa and I played golf one day, she enjoyed the many activities that were sponsored by the resort, we ate as a family, walked on the beach and Alexa was able to enjoy an animal show in the indoor sports center. This healing time was necessary for us to try to function again as a family, albeit without Daegen here on earth. The butterfly became a symbol of Daegen and we saw many butterflies while visiting. Daegen was with us the entire time we stayed at Cragun’s. This July will be six years since Daegen passed away and we have not had a family vacation with just the three of us since then. Visiting Cragun’s again would be an amazing experience for us and bring us back to that time when we were so close Daegen being here on Earth with us.
