4. A Lot of Fun?
|My two boys with their grandma giving Cragun’s two thumbs up!|
We recently spent a family weekend at Cragun’s to surprise my dad for his 60th birthday! We had a FABULOUS time!! It was Winter Fun Weekend and although a bit chilly, we had so much fun! My boys (ages 3 and 5) LOVED ice bowling and skating! We could barely get them out of the pool to go home! We also had a great time playing tennis and basketball in the gym! The rooms were so nice and big and the buffet food was AMAZING!! We also enjoyed the trolley ride and roasted marshmallows and drank hot chocolate by the bonfire! It was the perfect vacation to get all of our family together and share some wonderful memories! Dutch even introduced himself to us at dinner and my little boys still talk about how cool it was to meet Dutch! 🙂 They are still talking about Cragun’s and we all can’t wait to go back again! We all gave Cragun’s two BIG thumbs up!!

Cragun’s off season? No way! At least that’s what we thought until it happened by lucky accident. Tempted by the March Break Specials last year, my two grown children, twelve-year-old grandson, and I booked a week in late March, looking forward to our very first visit to Cragun’s, having heard wonderful things about it for years and all the great activities advertised — the best medicine for Cabin Minnesota Fever. Or so we thought. But, arriving from Chaska, we had to make our way through a foot of snow to the cabin door. We soon discovered the worst was still to come. Our March Break was a week later than anyone else’s. Everything was closed down, including the restaurants, the swimming pool, and all the events. What to do?
That first night, however, as we sat before our comforting fireplace watching the moon come up over the frozen lake, we couldn’t help, but marvel at the peaceful beauty of the place. Next day offered more consolations: invigorating walks along the cleared paths around the lake, the trees silvery from hoarfrost the air crisp and smelling of pine, eagles swooping overhead, and squirrels performing acrobatics through the trees. We cooked a leisurely gourmet dinner in the cabin’s well-stocked kitchen, we played Monopoly and Parcheesi, grandson honed his chess skills, we shared family memories, laughed and cried, I took up knitting a long neglected prayer shawl, and that seemed just the appropriate place. We went to bed feeling the day had been full of events — not at all what we’d expected, but much more satisfying. As the days slipped by, all too quickly, we realized how valuable they’d been. We’d had the time and peace to come closer together as a family, we’d forgotten all about cabin fever, and, in fact, Craguns’ winter beauty made us sorry winter would soon give way to spring. What a wonderful week of memories and a template for more. And that brings me to the point: there’s NO “off season” at Cragun’s Resort!

This is the ideal spot for my family! We always have something to do. My favorite memory is the comfort of the room. I did not want to leave…wanted to stay forever!

It was our anniversary and we stayed in a room with a fireplace that smoked back up in the room and we wound up being put into another room that was a nicer upgrade and we couldn’t have been more pleased with the service from the staff that we received. Meeting the owner of the Cragun’s Resort was a pleasant surprise and we felt very much at home. The staff at the lounge that evening was a lot of fun. Sunday morning we were very surprised by the wonderful breakfast buffet. When our grandchildren get a little older we plan to make it an annual event to come up and share the experience with them.
