The holidays start with a bang here in Nisswa, Minnesota! Downtown Nisswa traditionally welcomes in the holiday season with fireworks and Christmas light displays on the evening of Black Friday.
Downtown Nisswa is a very fun place to be on Black Friday. On Friday, November 28th, holiday shoppers in downtown Nisswa can enjoy festivities like horse-drawn carriage rides, bonfires, holiday carols and refreshments like hot apple cider and donut holes in addition to shopping specials.
From 2:00-7:30 pm there will be food items stationed around town and the Nisswa Chamber office will host letter writing to Santa and Christmas crafts for kids. The bonfires along the Paul Bunyan Trail and Nisswa Square will also be lit. Horse drawn wagon rides will run from 2:30-7:00 pm and Polar Express Storytelling will be held in the Caboose on Main Street at 3:45 pm. Live Reindeer will be in the Black Ridge Bank parking lot and carolers will stroll throughout downtown entertaining all. Santa Claus will be stationed in the Nisswa Square from 4:00-5:45 pm and then he will “officially” arrive at 6:00 pm at the Gazebo.
The businesses of downtown Nisswa kick off the start of the holiday season at 5:30 pm, when the Christmas light displays in the area are turned on all at once. Turning on the Christmas light displays is a beautiful symbol of the solidarity of the downtown businesses and of the start of the holiday season. Finally, the Good Samaritan Communities sponsor the “Love Lights a Tree” ceremony in the Pioneer Village at 5:45 pm.
Nisswa Chamber businesses will be participating in a HOLIDAY SHOPPING CAMPAIGN, that starts with the City of Lights Celebration (Friday, November 28th) and goes through December 31, 2014. Shoppers can purchase a $5 City of Lights commemorative button and will receive a list of the participating stores that will be honoring discounts to shop at their businesses from November 28th through December 31s. Buttons go on sale November 14.
The fireworks show will start at 7:30 pm and if you have never experienced a winter fireworks display, it is truly spectacular. Following the fireworks display there will be live music at the Nisswa American Legion and the Pickle Factory.
